The Bible as an Idol?

Is such a thing possible?

So, the first thing I notice is that someone, somewhere has labeled my Bible as “Holy.” In other words, it is called a “Holy Bible.” Says right there on the cover.

Can an inanimate object be “Holy.”

Isn’t that exactly what an idol is? People take an inanimate object and elevate it to animated status?

Take the idols of the ancient world, for instance. The pagans in the ancient world would carve a statue that represented some God in nature for instance. And they would build a house or temple for the carved-out God and worship it.

In fact, the ancient Hebrews were forbidden to have any carved facsimile of any animal or anything inside The Temple.

In our church pews today, we will have books that profess to be “holy.”

What?!

According to the book itself, the Bible, only God is Holy.

Because, you see, that is what the book called the Bible reveals, what is and isn’t Holy, and why it matters.

The human soul is given to idol worship. Why, we can even worship inanimate objects, like some sort of book that has a bunch of different ways of saying the same thing.

How can that be Holy. Holy implies the utmost purity.

Stay pure out there; and only God is Holy.
